LIFEGUARD (LG) TRAINING                                                                                                    

General Information:

The purpose of the Lifeguard Course is to teach participants the knowledges and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.  This course will prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.  During the Pre-Class, participants will:
     A) swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards front crawl (freestyle) using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick;100 yards breaststroke using a CLEAR pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence; 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke, or a combination of the two;
     B) starting in the water, swim 20 yards; surface dive 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface; swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the brick; and exit the water without using ladder or steps all within 1 minute 40 seconds.

Participants must be 15 years of age on or before the final day of the   course.  Bring proof of age to the first day of class.   Candidates MUST pass the Pre-Test to participate in LG Course.   Participants should wear appropriate swim suits: one piece for women; non-sagging suits for men. This is a safety issue. Minimum # of Students for Class to Make:  6. Note:  Goggles may be worn for the 300 yard swim only.  For the remainder of the course, no goggles, no exceptions!


SCHEDULE:

April 30 (pre-test): 6pm to 8pm
May 1, 2, 8 & 9: 9am to 6pm
