LIFEGUARD (LG) TRAINING                                                                                                    

General Information:

The purpose of the Lifeguard Course is to teach participants the knowledges and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.  This course will prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.  During the Pre-Class, participants will:
     A) swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards front crawl
(freestyle) using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick;100 yards breaststroke using a CLEAR pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence; 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke, or a combination of the two;
     B) starting in the water, swim 20 yards; surface dive 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the
surface; swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the brick; and exit the water without using ladder or steps all within 1 minute 40 seconds.
CANDIDATES: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM BOTH STROKES.  THERE WILL BE NO TRAINING OR ASSISTANCE AT THE POOL PRIOR OR DURING THE PRE-SWIM.
Participants must be 15 years of age on or before the final day of the   course.  Bring proof of age to the first day of class.   Candidates MUST pass the Pre-Test to participate in LG Course.   Participants should wear appropriate swim suits: one piece for women; non-sagging suits for men. This is a safety issue. Minimum # of Students for Class to Make:  6.  Note:  Goggles may be worn for the 300 yard swim only.  For the remainder of the course, no goggles, no exceptions!

LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR (LGI) TRAINING                                            

General Information
The purpose of the Lifeguard Instructor Course is to train LGI candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding, and Shallow Water Attendant (all including First Aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Basic Water Rescue courses.  Participants will use course materials to conduct training sessions.

During the Pre-Class, the participants will be challenged in ALL aspects (skills and written tests) of lifeguarding.  This includes CPR/AED, Lifeguarding and First Aid.  Remember, this is a challenge.  Potential LGI Candidates must be able to correctly perform all skills without benefit of coaching, training or assistance.  READ YOUR LG BOOK!

To participate in the Pre-Class, each participate MUST be currently certified or have successfully completed a Red Cross Lifeguarding (full or review course) or another acceptable lifeguarding course within the last four years. PROOF MUST BE PRESENTED BEFORE PRE-TEST BEGINS.  FAILURE TO PRESENT PROOF WILL ELIMINATE ABILITY TO PARTICIPATE AND RESULT IN LOSE OF THE $100 FEE. See below for acceptable courses. All MUST pass the Pre-Test to participate in LGI Course.  Candidates must be 17 years of age on or before the final day of the course.
